Awww, lovely as always. Once you've read the second part where Sam is at such a low point, ...then, when you go back and re-read the first part, (where he has this vision of himself as a lone hero), it makes him seem such an endearing character. He handles the down stuff with quiet dignity, and picks himself up and goes back into the fight, refusing to repeat his mistakes, and almost Quixotic. I loved how you made him such a great character.

And I've got a bit of a soft spot for William H Macy, he's unusual looking, but he's got definite charm and twinkle, I can see why Danny would fancy him. Awww, lovely.

Gawd. Thank god you didn't leave LJ, or nobody would've read this at all! Plus you used my favourite word in the world: re-read. Thank you!

Danny and Sam did have a certain chemistry in the show, but I may be prejudiced, as I think Danny has chemistry with pretty much everyone, from the tea lady upward. Not that they had a tea lady, but if they did, he would.

'Quixotic' is a good Sports Night word, also.

Oh, I really liked this look at Sam. That was such a fascinating view of the man we barely got to know. I like the way it was quiet and measured, even in the parts where you were describing his darkest points, just like the Sam we saw on screen. And I love Danny through his eyes. And your paragraph on what Sam's job really meant, what the public really want was wonderful - cutting and so horrendously true.

Apparently what the public wants is America's Next Top Model and Pop Idol. They are welcome to them, frankly.

I'm glad this worked for you. I owe most of the framework to Annie, but am more than happy to take credit for the embroidery. Thank you!

His first appearance, when he was so. Very. Rude put me off him badly, plus there was the forced and never-quite-believable 'attraction' to Dana (for a married couple and, apparently, a very happy one, those two had remarkably little screen chemistry) - but Annie gave me such a good structure to build on, I couldn't go far wrong with it if I tried. Many thanks for reading this, and for commenting.

Amazing! I love kooky, quirky, never-really quite harmless Danny and how he brought Sam back to the Sam he wants to be. Sigh. How I wish there could have been a Season 3 so something like this could have happened. Not that the twits at the networks would have ever let *this* happen, but you something as good as this story deserves a little air time.

Thanks ever so much for sharing!

A Season 3 where Dan could have carried on flirting with absolutely everyone he met, male, female, undecided, and the occasional small dog and coffee table, would have been quite delightful. There is never enough Danny in the world. But then, there's always the possibility that it might have gone downhill - the writers might have decided to make it All About Casey/Dana for example - so perhaps it's better as it is.

I am so glad that you enjoyed reading this, and thank you very much for commenting!
