I find myself agreeing with this statement: "When over a quarter of young adults are too fat to fight, we need to take notice." Not because you want everyone to grow up to be a soldier, but because it indicates there really is a problem. However, I don't think monitoring eating is whole answer - they have to encourage physical fitness too. And by that I mean random free activity, not Mom driving the kids to a supervised soccer game. When we were growing up we'd hop on our bikes and be gone all day. Now parents can and HAVE been charged with neglect for allowing that.
