❉ Creation can suck my ass. (Only not.) No video or audio of Jensen's jam session is bad enough. But finding out he covered not one but TWO Ray LaMontagne songs? And two of my favorites from the last album?? *hyperbolic whimpering and sighing* Not. Fair.

Saw it several years ago and just ached for the absolute cruelty and unfairness of it all, and you're right so much of it is still out there in the world directed at women and it drives me crazy. I can only say that having a daughter and loving her endlessly, there is NOTHING that would make me turn my back on her, no religion, man, community, etc.

That's beautiful. :) I can only hope that that represents the majority of parents. The attitude the girls' parents had toward them in the film, thinking they'd disgraced their families, is so foreign to me. When are women going to stop being the scape goats for sins that are not their own??

Deep blue on nmails is awesome. I only started using it recently and it's already one of my favorite colors.

And hee, for once I would have loved to see a convention video. Bummer.

Agreed. :) Blue is one of my favorite colors, but some of the lighter shades can seem a bit cheap on nails. This, otoh, is perfect.

Maybe that experience will give Jensen the confidence to do another show for everyone (because, gah, $1500? so not for everyone!) that can be recorded. *crosses fingers*

It's not that long since the last Magdalene laundry closed. I wrote my A-Level drama play about them and it was incredibly depressing and rage inducing. I actually didn't watch the film until a couple of years later because I thought it might just push me over the edge having visual images to go with all the research, although according to former inmates, the reality was worse than the movie. I did correspond with a woman who had been given up for adoption to an American family and then traced her birth mum to an unmarked grave in the grounds of a laundry.

Yeah, they said that the last one closed in 1996, I think? Beyond appalling.

although according to former inmates, the reality was worse than the movie

Which just makes it more depressing. Hell, one of the women in the documentary wasn't even at a laundry, but an orphanage adjacent to one, and was abused horribly by the nuns and priest there.

I wonder how the woman with whom you corresponded and other children must feel to know how their mothers were treated, in addition to being given up unwillingly... well, those children who discovered the truth, that is.

The woman I corresponded with had felt glad that she hadn't been given up because she was unwanted, but obviously was very angry when she found out what had actually happened. I'm not sure what the adoptive parents of these children knew about the situation the birth mums were in.

I can't even imagine. That's just... well, "heartbreaking" seems inadequate.

I think it would be worth learning to knit just to have those socks.

Yes. Although I think checking Etsy in case some crafty-type person is selling them would be the first step. Lazy, you say? ;)
