Battlestar Galactica

For the first time since the finale aired 2 years ago, I rewatched the beginning of Battlestar Galactica.  It was rainy and gross out yesterday and I was in the mood for something epic.  I started with the MiniSeries and watched through "You Can't Go Home Again".

I know it was terribly flawed, even more flawed than the characters, but I really miss that show. There was something about it that was Grand...capitalization intended.

I tend to go with Epic but yes, I know what you mean and there's nothing on the air at the moment with that sort of scope/vision/attempt.

I think part of the reason the finale really destroyed my enjoyment of the series is because the series was so flawed and so Epic and so, so close to almost getting it right and then it fell so far short (in my opinion) at the last minute when there was no hope of recovery.

I'm glad to know I can go back and still enjoy the beginning for what it was, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to do a complete epic rewatch.

I still can't stomach the idea of a rewatch, even though I wish I could. This is my absolute favourite show and I should be able to pop in those dvds and watch it again and again to relive the love. But the trauma of how it all ended makes the journey less somehow. While the show was still in progression the angst was always countered with hope, hope that it would all be worthwhile in the end. But the ending was unfathomable and disjointed and soul crushing. Instead of it being the glorious culmination of everything that had come before, it felt like a stand alone episode that took hardly anything or anyone into account. There were no answers, there was no satisfaction. Just emptiness and misery. Mind you, if you had been rooting for the bad guys from the start, BSG ended in a cloud of perfection, rainbows and puppies.

This was, literally, the first time I've seen BSG since the finale. And I think its the first time in over a year that I've talked about the show. I don't even read BSG fic anymore and it is sad because it was such a vibrant fan base.

I own all the BSG seasons on DVD but I'm not sure I'll ever actually break the plastic on 4/4.5 and I'm pretty sure the only part of 3 I've watched is Unfinished Business for the extended cut.

Yeah, things where the hero's get screwed and the selfish assholes get rewarded don't really do it for me.
