For the first time since the finale aired 2 years ago, I rewatched the beginning of Battlestar Galactica. It was rainy and gross out yesterday and I was in the mood for something epic. I started with the MiniSeries and watched through "You Can't Go Home Again".
I, of course, provided twitter commentary as I went, though nobody else played along. My tweets can be read below from the bottom up - I'm too lazy to reorder. ;-)
- Even this early into the series I knew celebration couldn't be a good thing. #AoC #BSG about 14 hours ago via HootSuite
- I forgot Apollo knew about Roslin's cancer almost from the beginning. Unfortunately the writers forgot too. #thingswhichcouldvebeenawesome about 14 hours ago via HootSuite

This morning I'm sad because I was so drawn in, so captured by these characters once again that I want to keep watching, but I don't think I can. I don't want to see them destroyed, written into hollow shells with no resemblance to themselves. And I'll having trouble picking a point to stop before The End if I go much further.
Because, the thing is that even now, knowing how the show ends, how RDM sees these characters, I can't see it.
I can't see Kara and Lee reuniting in the back half of the Mini and think, "yes, this a couple stuck on a table never able to come to grips with their past".
I can't watch Kara in Acts of Contrition/Home Again and think, "yes, her greatest fear has always been being forgotten".
I can't watch Lee in Bastille Day and think, "yes, here is a man who will abandon all science, knowledge and trapping of civilization to abandon the people and go explore a new world".
I can't watch Dualla speaking so passionately about Zarek in Bastille Day and think, "yes, I see how she will lay down everything for the sense of belonging and security of being cuckold by an Adama".
I can't see Callie, her face covered in blood, in Bastille Day and think, "yes, clearly she will enter into an abusive relationship with a man for whom she knows she is a second choice because he's been kind to her in the past".
I can't watch Bill Adama maneuver his fleet through these early events and think, "yes, I see how he will abandon them all because he is betrayed by human frailty".
I could go on, but I think you get my point. It makes me sad.
