Sweets was more than disoriented; he was downright confused as fuck.
All he remembered was going to sleep next to Daisy, and the next thing he knows, he's here, wherever here is, stepping out of a pod and stumbling down the hallway. Which he was still doing, actually.
As he found the next door, he huffed, deciding it was good as anything--what did he have to lose?--and stared in awe at the irony of his life showing up before him. Not only had he spent most of his life in this stupid place, or ones like it, but here he was again, doomed to be stuck in a library forever.
Damn lot of good those doctorates did for him, he thought grumpily, and entered, sitting in the nearest chair and plopping his elbows down on the wood, cheeks in his hands.
Wesley didn't even realize that someone had come in here until he heard someone say 'this totally sucks.' Sounded like something that Cordelia would say. Thinking of that just made him miss her, though.
He looked over to where he heard the voice come from, only to see a young man sitting in a chair. "Which part sucks? The library, or just being stuck here in general?" he asked.
Sweets jumped, and looked across the room. Wow, he was totally not on his game today, was he? There was a quiet British man sitting not twenty feet from him, and he hadn't even bothered to check.
"Um...being here, wherever the hell that is, being lost, not having seen anyone living--though I can check that one off now, I guess." He stood and hesitantly wandered over to the other table, hoping he wouldn't be invading any space. "I'm Dr. Lance Sweets."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," Wesley apologized. He didn't realize that the man didn't know that he was there. "I'm Wesley Wyndam Pryce, by the way."
He walked a little closer toward him. "I haven't seen too many other people here either, but I know that there are others. I'm not too sure where here is either, though."
Despite how many afternoons she had spent dodging time in the library during high school, Buffy had always found the shelves of books and the quiet atmosphere to be one of the most comforting environments she could find. The expected hush and the somewhere-between-retro-and-ancient architecture brought any unpleasant vibes back into harmony. And she needed that, after the altercation during the black out.
While flipping through a book that she certainly was not reading, Buffy happened to look up and see an exceptionally familiar face. Well, almost familiar. He certainly did not look like the same man she had seen two years ago. Also, she was not exactly surprised to find him, considering that she had been told of his existence in this strange place. It had only been a matter of time.
"Wesley." Buffy said his name as she quietly closed the book and walked over to him with her hands finding their habitual places on either hip. "Don't tell me--even this wacky dimension has Watchers?"
Wesley looked over in surprise to see someone that he actually knew, and not just someone who was a dead ringer for someone that he knew. Now this was pretty much amazing right here.
"Buffy? It's really you?" he asked. If he actually liked her more, he'd be relived enough to hug her. The two had never gotten along well, though, although, given the situation, that might change.
Wait, wasn't she dead?
He tilted his head at her in confusion for a moment before mentally shrugging. As if anything else in this place made sense. "First, that would require me to still be a Watcher, and, two, I don't know what this dimension has as far as any sort of Council is concerned."
"Yeah, it's really me." She tossed the book onto the corner of a low shelf, spine facing away. It had not even been written in a language that she had understood and a large chunk of her knew that Wesley would know she couldn't read Ancient Regional Whateverian. At least, she imagined that would be something like the name of whatever the language actually was
( ... )
If she had come back from the dead, she wouldn't be the first person to have done so. From what he knew of her, she had already done it once anyway. She certainly seemed different than the last time he had any contact with her, although that felt like it had been ages ago. Had it really only been about a year or so? So much in his life had changed since then. She seemed to be regarding him in the same way he was her, though. They had both changed a lot.
"Toto didn't come along for the ride on this adventure." Thank goodness Cordelia forced him to watch all the movies he had missed while doing his Watcher training over the years. This meant that he knew just what on earth she had been talking about. "Do you have any clue as to what is going on in this place? No one I've ran into so far seems to know anything about it. Then again, I suppose it would be simple and too easy if we all knew what was going on."
