Dante didn't know what compelled him to suddenly be the "heroic" type today. Sure, he'd tried to play nice so far while here in this unusual place, but the last time he'd done that it hadn't led to much. Which was exactly why he hated it when people tried to boss other people around--they never knew anymore shit than the next person, and nothing ever got done. That's why he liked doing things his own way. That, and he was hard to get along with anyway. Just the way he liked it.

But here he was trying again to do another damn good deed. At least this time he was looking for a chick. She sounded young though what with the whole "daddy" complex so he wasn't expecting any physical retribution... but a little appreciation never hurt anyone.

And boy was he a sap to little kids, especially girls. Damnit. Not that he would ever admit that.He headed towards the not so likable and all too familiar area where the newbies arrived. He'd told himself he wouldn't come here anymore after the last couple of times. (He still remembered how he met ( ... )

She wasn't crying, damn it.

She was... probably too tired for it. Too void of it. He'd chastise her for crying, as it is, after all, she proclaimed she be a hunter and destroy the demons that hurt them. Mary would still insist it was to calm herself down and no thanks to her father, she developed a thing about shaking when angry or stressed. At least in her hands, never in her composure, but...

No, she was still one for irrational space. Mary wasn't truly paying attention to the figure that was approaching, never gave it much thought, until his shadow cast over her. Then it would cause her to flinch, tense up, and spring to her feet, idly clutching Kalina Ann like a type of security blanket. Maybe a few months ago, it wasn't normal to be on edge. Mary had a very powerful point about space and her "personal bubble", and in this case it was literally making a five feet distance. With the this man with-

White hair? She blinked, didn't say anything, but looked at him blankly. The touch of her fluster drained away, leaving her face ( ... )

The expression on Dante's face went instantly from utter stoicism to one of complete surprised within a heartbeat upon hearing that name. His brows furrowed, he tried to hide his gaping mouth behind a frown (only half way succeeding), and he stared at her intently. He started then froze. Then he relaxed and frowned down at her.

What the shit was this!?

How could she possibly know--was it just a coincidence? But if she were basing her guess on what he thought she was...

He closed his eyes and when he reopened them his face was blanker than it had been when he'd walked up in the first place. "I had a brother by that name actually, yeah. But I don't see how you could possibly be referring to the same guy."

Whereas he had stared at her, the same gaze was reflected back. Mary had retained a very innocent stature, the look in her eyes behind the ebony stature of Kalina Ann. Cold, yet, weary. He might have not been someone suspicious, someone possibly... tied? Even if Vergil didn't speak much to her, he did with her father. And in that argument, it was Vergil who idly put his foot down, telling her father he had disrupted the work by getting her upset. Either way, it was the only act of compassion Mary could find now. Despite everything, even Mary knew behind her father's reassurances, he was... cruel. And she would never admit this ( ... )
