I actually think that while it would make huge headlines in the press, people would still dig Justin's music. I think that while he does have people who appreciate how attractive he is, most of the time it's just the way he moves and how he sounds. Plus, half the people think he's gay anyway.

See, I tend to think that the half of the people who think he's gay are the ones who don't like him (except for slashers, of course, because we're special :P). I don't know that it would hurt him too much as far as the general public... but I have a feeling all the rappers he works with wouldn't be that pleased, considering some of the homophobic remarks they've made in the past. Justin's in such a unique position... it's interesting to think about, anyway. I don't think it'd ever happen, even if he is gay.

What mainstream American music genres *are* tolerant of the gays? Hard rock guys? Country guys ( ... )

I read an essay about the misogyny issue, actually, in relation to boybands, which basically came down to--anything that little girls think is good is automatically devalued by mainstream culture because if young girls like it, it must suck. Because the opinions of young girls don't mean anything in our society. And yeah, I think you could make the same argument for gays--things that gays like are automatically devalued.
It's not like Justin was all into PFLAG *until* he started working with "urban" artists. If that's what's keeping him from being who he is, then it's Justin's problem, not the rappers.True. But I think in the end, Justin will always ( ... )
