Someone did their research for this interview:

LF: Speaking of Lou, he created this other boy band called US5-they're huge in Germany. One of the members, a blonde kid named Richie Stringini, was caught on cell-phone camera in a Berlin gay bar bathroom stall, shirtless, with a guy's head in his crotch. Oh, I completely agree. If Justin were trying to break into rock or country (beyond the one duet with Reba) then I would be wondering how those sectors of the music industry would react if he came out. I wonder how people like Tim McGraw feel about Lance now, actually. It was nice to hear in his interview with Tyra that guys like Marc Anthony were so supportive of him coming out.

I read an essay about the misogyny issue, actually, in relation to boybands, which basically came down to--anything that little girls think is good is automatically devalued by mainstream culture because if young girls like it, it must suck. Because the opinions of young girls don't mean anything in our society. And yeah, I think you could make the same argument for gays--things that gays like are automatically devalued.

It's not like Justin was all into PFLAG *until* he started working with "urban" artists. If that's what's keeping him from being who he is, then it's Justin's problem, not the rappers.

True. But I think in the end, Justin will always put his career first, and if he thinks that revealing something about himself is going to hurt his career, he's not going to do it. And I think regardless of what Lance seems to think, the music industry as a whole is pretty straight, and not all that tolerant of gays. It's a cultural domino effect. If the society creates a cultural atmosphere in which someone believes that being gay will hurt him, he's not going to want to reveal that information if he can possibly keep it hidden.
