What I've Been Doing

1) Playing Dragon Age: Origins. It is a brilliant RPG -- quite possibly the best CRPG ever made. From a mechanics standpoint, there isn't anything that would seem unfamiliar to someone who has played KOTOR or Baldur's Gate, it's just been refined and removed from AD&D underpinnings, and it all balances nicely and works extremely well ( Read more... )

1) I have a friend who's OBSESSED with Dragon Age, and he showed me the preview, so I totally get why :) He said that there's a way you can play a version that isn't quite so bloody (don't remember what he called it), which is what I would do. Because the game looks amazing, but I don't like blood so much... But you know my gaming background, so I'll probably never be able to play it :(

2) You should name the last book .... *dramatic music* THE FINAL CADENCE!

3) And yes, the blizzard has been fairly epic. GVSU even closed after 3 PM, which must mean that it was, indeed, epic.

Also, I'm stealing Katie away after Christmas, so we should get together. I'm not sure if you'd be around during the after-Christmas/New Year's time though.

The only real blood in the game is a) dead bodies often lie in a pool of blood, b) a few rare spells cause you to explode messily, and c) after a fight your characters spend quite a while covered with blood spatter. You can turn off c). So there's not much *active* blood, but you'll definitely see plenty of red splotches.

The one part I did laugh at with the blizzard was the newscasters talking in serious tones about high winds with up to 28mph gusts!! Those are very pedestrian storm winds for the Puget Sound, where I've seen 30mph *sustained* winds fairly often.

We're not going anywhere, though the boys will be here from Christmas to New Years. We'd love to see you and Katie.

No, single player only.

My wife and I have been taking turns, and it can be a companionable enough game -- if you don't do too much backseat spellcasting.
