The man was a wimp, but he was his wimp and if anyone else called him that they would have House to answer to for it.
So House! Nobody else can play with his favorite toy!
A lot of men don’t realize their true sexual identity until middle age sets in. Then they are mystified by the truth because they’ve just spent the better part of their lives living in denial. You’re not alone, Wilson.”
Could he say it any clearer for the shy, self-deluded oncologist? I'm reminded of Wilson's reaction when House was "picking at the lint in his belly button" in canon. For a "knight in shining armor," he's very shy and repressed, isn't he?

And yes, the gay jokes and innuendos came thick and fast in the eighth season, I had the impression House was trying to tell wilson something without actually telling him anything.

Yes. And the rest of the fic shows House trying to help Wilson acknowledge what he really wants, so he can also get it. House crying on a tree stump in the chilly feeble moonlight had me teary eyed as well.
Water will only spread the burn;
OT cultural differences: as a child I rarely ate hot food at home, but when I did my parents taught me not to drink water, presumably for the same reason... and to drink wine instead. We would normally not even have milk at home.
I really, really like this verse. Looking forward to its continuation.

We would normally not even have milk at home. Lol! That really is a cultural difference! It's considered very bad for a parent to offer any kind of alcohol to a child here; a parent could have their child taken away by the government for that. Not that it isn't done in certain cases here, but it is definitely a different way of thinking between our two cultures:) And growing up and even now there was and is always milk in the fridge. I remember when I was a child my father would have me swish some vodka around in my mouth to stop a toothache, but then again he immigrated from the Ukraine to Canada. It's not unusual for that kind of thing there. And every year he'd make his chokecherry wine and I got to have a small sample of the first fruits, so to speak ( ... )

It was bad enough that he was losing Wilson, but he didn’t want to lose him never being certain exactly who the real Wilson was or could have been.
Ouch.
"I’m too tired for honesty tonight.”
A very nice way to imply that he'll be ready for it in the near future!

ETA: I forgot to quote my fave line.
