FAO London people: free glass

Mar 24, 2010 16:19

EDIT: all claimed or dumped now, sorry.Does anyone want any old window glass (e.g. for sheds, cold frames, etc)? We are getting new windows fitted, and the old ones will go to the dump if not claimed. There are some large complete panes (2-3 feet on each side), and a few smaller ones still in frames. Please let me know soon if I should save you ( Read more... )

Don't forget the pane I put in the kitchen next to the cutting boards. I haven't measured it.

Ewt and I were talking about cold frames just the other day: I think we agreed that we wouldn't wait around for glass to become available, and she made a mini polytunnel come from the internet instead. But I bet if you put word out to the Organiclea Grower's Association what does the veg boxes, or put a note up in the Hornbeam Centre, someone would leap at the chance.

I can't blame Ewt for ordering stuff off the Internet instead; the growing season isn't going to wait around on the off-chance that someone will have their windows done.

Might try Freecycle if nobody has shown interest by this afternoon, but this is stuff I want out of my house within a couple of days, so I am happy to send it to the dump if there are no takers.

Ooo, yes please! I want to build a cold frame! Not sure which one would be best though. One in a frame definitly...also one I can get home easily walking or by bus. Maybe the 20 x 44 or 16 x 38? Potentialy can come round on Sunday.

Argh, workmen took all the unclaimed stuff away before you posted :(

However, ewtikins took two small framed panes (one 1'x1.5' and one 1'x3') and two bigger unframed ones (1.5'x4'). She may not be using all of them - check with her and see if there are spares?

Silly wasteful workmen.

Will check with her, thanks. If not Alan will probably be greatful that i don't have yet another unfinished project lying around the house or garden. :P

If you are still looking for glass, I saw some old double glazing units sitting outside 202 Grove Green Road. I think they're leaky (condensation inside), but they'd do for a cold frame. Failing that, I have a big sheet of perspex in my back garden if that'd work.
