Here is an idea for a math project... Bake something! You bake? Is there a home ec type room? Cooking and baking requires math and science, but covers it all up in something tasty and to some people fun. Anyway, good luck! That sounds like a cool job. BTW, a really useful book for you on this one would be I'm Just here for more food, by Alton Brown. Don't know if you have it, but its good, and could certainly help with the research part.
Oh yeah. I bake. :) And I actually own the book in question. You're right, it's a fantastic resource book if the school does have a kitchen I can get at...
