A very violent line of thunderstorms swept through the DC area last Sunday, with winds clocked as high as 75 mph.

We lost power for two days and also lost the big tree in the back yard.

It sounds like you were very lucky that tree didn't go crashing through the roof and very thankful no one was hurt.

I love storms and love watching them, but seeing their aftermath and how truly scary they can be is really sobering.

I used to enjoy thunderstorms, too, until I got satellite TV. Now it seems anytime there's a bolt of lightning within 20 miles the signal goes on the fritz.

Yes, we were lucky with the tree. The storm was moving west to east and that's the way the tree fell. If the winds had been from a different direction, well, who knows.

Sorry about your tree, but I'm very glad it didn't hurt anyone or do severe damage to your house.

Thank you. It was kind of a shock. I was on the front porch seeing if there might be a tornado coming since the wind was so hard. I heard a loud pop, but didn't think much of it until I went into the house and saw the tree on the ground through a back window.
