Aftermath
A very violent line of thunderstorms swept through the DC area last Sunday, with winds clocked as high as 75 mph.
We lost power for two days and also lost the big tree in the back yard.
No one was hurt, we didn't even suffer any water leakage. And the insurance adjuster and contractor have already been here, so we won't be out anymore than our deductible.
The tree removal service had that thing and the 40 feet of it remaining in the ground out of here in less than 5 hours. I was very impressed.
I had them cut me a slice off from the bottom and I tried counting the rings. The wood got very dark towards the center (turns out the tree was full of boring insects and hollow spots, so that's why it finally cracked.) It was close to 100 years old the best I can tell.
