Renji shook his head quickly and busied himself with the taiyaki. Nope. Nothing the matter here. Nothing at all.

His gaze snapped back up as Rukia took off and he turned, slowly, to look at Byakuya.

Byakuya unconsciously reached up to touch his lips, smiling.

He sat back up, but didn't let go of Renji's hand this time. "Renji...ah. There are people."

Renji shrugged slightly and watched Byakuya quietly.

Renji smiled and finished off the last of the taiyaki before looking around.

"So, er...we should, y'know...probably tell Rukia."

Byakuya's thumb started rubbing circles against Renji's hand - he didn't mean to do it, but Renji's hand was soft.

"...What if she doesn't approve, Renji?" Byakuya said, having doubts again.

"...If she didn't approve, I'm pretty sure I would have met the business end of that broomstick of hers by now."

Renji rubbed the back of his head in memory of being smacked there one too many times by the damn thing.

"I know she means a lot to you. And I care for her as well. But something like this," Byakuya paused momentarily.

"Broomsticks don't handle situations like these, Renji."

Byakuya thought about it. "I suppose you're right. Yes. We should tell her."

Byakuya reached up to brush a few strands of hair from Renji's eyes. "Renji. When is the fireworks show?"

Renji turned his head toward the light touch before realizing what he was doing.

"Um...it should be soon, it's getting dark enough."

Byakuya stroked his thumb across Renji's cheek, amused by his reaction.

"Should we go then?"

Renji stood and smoothed out his yukata, waiting for Byakuya.

Byakuya followed Renji's actions and got up from his seat. Then, hesitating only the slightest, he reached for Renji's hand again, ignoring some of the looks he got from the other patrons.

He also pretended to ignore the look on Renji's face, and started walking towards the door. "Let's go then."
