Eh, I liked it. I didn't hate it like End of Time. There were some signature RTD plot holes, but it was an enjoyable 50 minutes or so. I got a definite Iris Wildthyme vibe off of Katy Manning, though.
I was really waiting for it to get more exciting, like when the theme, "I Am the Doctor" strikes up! Nothin' doin'! I did enjoy the conversation between the Doctor and Jo, but EvilUnitWoman made me roll my eyes. Why is the Brigadier lost in Peru AGAIN, Rust?
SJA has had some really thought-provoking stories - and (this ep aside) is consistently mature in its handling of themes that the parent show frequently trips over, despite the fact that SJA's written for a younger audience. I think S2 and S3 have been the best - but I admit to a certain amount of bias because I like Rani considerably more than Maria (whom she replaced as the actress playing Maria bowed out to concentrate on exams).
Also, you clearly think the phrase "consistent characterisation" is nothing more than a nicely alliterative phrase!
He's said in interviews that he thinks consistent plotting is boring. So it's not like you can trust anything ever given as an absolute in his stories; it'll change when he wants to manipulate the next big emotional scene.

RTD did rip off another Big Finish audio, though.
