this is honestly has been my favourite of the fifth series. I loved the way it was filmed and written. The episode was warm without being sappy or overindulgent. I loved that Van Gogh was the only one who could see super chicken, even though there was no explanation as to why
I especially loved that they have at least in this episode, toned down the Amy Sex kitten routine, she was almost likeable here
The best scene was them lying in the grass, and i sort of wished Van Gogh would have gone traveling for a while, hell of an actor who played his part tonight.
You'll find a whole bunch of people disagreeing with you about it not being sappy and overindulgent. It verged on sappiness at the end - but I was expecting that because Richard Curtis wrote it...
I can't say that I've noticed an "Amy Sex Kitten" routine anywhere so far.
It would've been interesting to have Van Gogh along as a temporary companion.
I did actually love the fact that the paper was burning, thought it was a clever way of getting rid of it. Although it does beg the question, why did the arrow in the door survive the trip that time.
Because RTD wanted it to - probably to show continuity - ie no time has really passed since the arrow hit the door and the Doctor fled Elizabeth's soldiers...
If you ever do love an entire Eleventh Doctor ep, can I have fair warning?
Oh, I know that they write what they want, I'm sure there is a perfectly valid reason that paper would burn but wood and feather wouldn't ;)(and yes, it showed no time had passed) I shouldn't expect continuity in DW, I know!

LOL! well, fair point. I will try. Although I do have to say there are many eps of Ten that I didn't love entirely... Many. I think the problem is I want to love completely, but I'm not. I'm entertained and watching every week. I'm sticking with it and will let you know.
You misunderstood my comment - the arrow still being in the door of the TARDIS was continuity from the end of The Shakespeare Code to the start of Gridlock - ie, implies they went straight from 16th century England to New Earth, with no detours...
I think if you hope to love it entirely, you'll always be doomed to disappointment. I mean, Smith and Jones is my favourite S3 episode - but there's still a bit I heartily dislike (when Ten's wagging his finger at Martha and telling her she isn't replacing Rose - which she hadn't even asked to do!)
Yes, Amy's reaction was very moving - it was clear from the outset that she's very fond of VG's work, and so I can understand her desperately wanting him to have lived longer, and being quite devastated that he'd not...

Oh! I love this scene of Amy, the Doctor and Van Gogh all lying on the grass, looking up the stars, and holding hands.
I loved that scene too. It was a beautiful interlude and the way the photoreal sky morphed into his painting was stunning.
Blimey, what's with the circus poster burning off the shell of the TARDIS - is that the result of the TARDIS going through the Vortex? Weird...
I thought that was a fun idea ;-)
...and yes, the dedication to Amy on the sunflowers painting was lovely.
