It's funny, a year later, to think that Martha actually got the best/happiest ending of the three new Who companions. She got to choose what to do - and chose to walk away from the Doctor (again), whereas Rose got dumped with Alt!Ten in Pete's World and told to "fix him", and Donna got mindwiped against her will...
This is true. I thought it was interesting that she was the only one to walk away without being somehow scarred or damaged from the events in TSE/JE. I think the only characters who got something even close to that were Jack & Mickey (but then they aren't really considered companions, are they??).
Maybe it's some slight redemption for the less than attentive treatment that RTD has given her character thus far.
Interesting though that he didn't feel the need to include a single reference to Mr. 'my ultra-super-duper-invisibleness will only make your heart grow fonder' Fiancé in these episodes. Talk about out of sight, out of mind...

They're considered companions by plenty of fans!
And considering how damaged Martha was at the end of last season, it would have been too much to have left her damaged at the end of this season too, or people would have been asking why she even bothered to speak to the Doctor (it'd smack too much of being with an abusive boyfriend).

I hope so!

I agree with Martha getting the happiest ending. I had a good feeling that she would be left alone in the finale since she does have the potential to go on Torchwood again or SJA. I really liked that she was able to walk away from the Doctor again with Jack and Mickey by her side. Even if she won't travel with the Doctor again, at least there's the assurance that she has friends close by (especially Jack - loved the hand holding :)).
If the Doctor goes off the rails, which I think is a real possibility, Martha's role could be absolutely pivotal. Of the three companions (Jack excluded) she's now the only one around and in a position to remember/judge his actions.

I like that idea as well. I'd definitely want to see that played out. I think it's a bit unlikely they'll bring Martha back on DW, but I'd love it if it did happen. They did bring her back numerous times this season, so who knows...

I really never imagined, a year ago, that Martha would actually come off best of the three RTD companions - it's rather weird (and pleasing!)
