Jubilee is a personal favorite, yes. Martin (whom I have a terribly inappropriate crush on) is so very wonderful in this story. The Doctor and Evelyn are in full form, and I genuinely felt sorry for the Dalek in the tower. So much better than Dalek (even though that was a good episode).

Yes, Minuet in Hell sucked donkey balls, but then the American accents were completely and truly, ear-bleedingly atrocious that I had a difficult time focusing on the plot. However I remember Chimes of Midnight being rather superb.

I must admit, I've long admired Martin Jarvis' work - he's been a real "staple" of British TV for so long and he's very versatile...

The Doctor and Evelyn are in full form

They are a fantastic TARDIS Team - I'm so glad I've finally caught up with them !

It was an excellent episode - it's probably one of my favourites episodes of Season 1...

I think at least half a dozen people have recommended it to me, so I really *must* hurry up and listen to it soon !

The story sounds very good. Then again, the Daleks always were a trip. I need to find out more about the Sixth Doctor.

Well I strongly recommend the Sixth Doctor BF audios, especially those with Evelyn. He's now teamed up with Charley Fisher (who was initially Eight's audio companion - I've no idea how they've worked this as I've yet to listen to them, but I shall get to them eventually) - and she's another audio companion of whom I'm rather fond !

Charley Pollard, silly, played by India Fisher :) I'm glad to hear you enjoyed "Jubilee"--not that I had any doubts, but confirmation is always good. Also glad I remembered the film trailer in the right audio. :) Rob Shearman definitely needs to have another go at DW. I keep wondering why he's only had the one episode so far, especially since "Dalek" was so good. Moffat, Gatiss, and Cornell have been back, so...where's Shearman?

Bah humbug ! I was in a rush as I was about to go and grab some food...

Of course I meant Charley Pollard...

*grumps at stupidity*

The film trailer was very funny, but the other two trailers were on the freakish side !

Absent - which is pretty much criminal, I'd say !

the story works better over the longer time frame

It's also more powerful as a "we become our enemies" story than a "fool has meddled with what he ought not" story.

Chimes is one of the classics, although Invaders is a personal favorite. As for Minute... all I shall say is that I was terribly relieved that in the latest, the Americans are played by an American, a Canadian, and a Brit who has spent significant time in America. (And at one point in the extras, Colin does an excellent imitation for a few words.)

could Ten hurry up and regenerate into Eleven soon so that Rob S can do an audio for Ten

Alas, not happening. Big Finish only gets to play with Doctors 1-8 by contract.

I thought that was the case, but have also wondered if that would change after a few years of the new series (since that rule was in effect before the new series appeared). Have you heard anything one way or another about the odds of their deal ever changing?

BF doesn't have a large budget (they were all but on their knees begging us to not download at last year's ChicagoTARDIS; a dozen lost sales isn't noticed by BBC but means they can't make the rent.) So I doubt that even if the BBC was willing to sell out what is a lucrative marketing material that BF could afford it.

Now, what happens when Doctor Who inevitably gets canceled again is anyone's guess. But that, hopefully, is a long, long way off, and right now IIRC, BF's license lasts to 2010.

That makes sense. I'd think, though, that if the show lasts, say, another seven years, by 2012, the sort of merchandising the BBC is doing now for a character like Rose or Martha will not be yielding much cash, but an audio featuring the older characters might still be of interest. That's why I was wondering if there's a certain timeframe for that sort of thing, but I suppose it also makes sense for everyone to play it by ear.

I'm glad BF has added the download option on their site, since it's so ridiculously pricey to get your hands on the audios over here. I haven't had time to give it a go yet, but I hope you get artwork files, etc, since the audios just wouldn't seem right without them.

*cough* Only until I can afford to buy the official versions, I promise you (my eagerness to listen to BF outstrips my ability to buy the CDs/downloads, but hopefully not for much longer...) Believe me, I don't want to make people cry !

I'm surprised to hear you're a bit ashamed of Jubilee - I really, thoroughly enjoyed it and anticipate listening to it again with pleasure.

(I miss the subtlety, say, of having the Dalek bond with the companion through conversation rather than being infected by DNA, but that's the pace of telly. Otherwise, though, at least it's done and dusted in 45 minutes!)

Having heard that on the audio, I have to say I much prefer that subtlety to the TV version of it !

BF's having their summer sale...

I know - my UNIT CDs came just this morning as a result of the summer sale, and I've already made a shopping list of other audios I want to get in another week or two... Now I have some extra cash coming in, I've every intention of getting legal copies of the audios I know I'll listen to again and again.

Chimes of Midnight is brilliance in audio, with laugh-out-loud moments and timely-wimey goodness. You must listen to it ASAP.

As to Jubilee, also brilliance in audio. I freely admit that I was completely sucked in by the Davros bluff.
I agree that it works better over the two hours, and I also think it works better in the more established canon. In Jubilee, it's more "We all know what Daleks are, and now we can have some fun with timey-wimey and crazy Martin Jarvis." In Dalek, it had to be simpler, fit more neatly into the Time War storyline and the storyline of S1, and had to introduce the Daleks to a new generation of kiddies.

I will certainly listen to Chimes in the next few days, once I've listened to "Invaders" first !!

Interestingly I didn't immediately think of Davros, despite having watched "Genesis" not too long ago...
