This week's episode is the first half of the mid-Season 1 two-parter, 'The Empty Child'. I opted to watch and also comment on 'The Doctor Dances'.

Every Dcctor should have a cat cuddling moment!

- According to Moffat 'red's camp' and mauve is the universal colour of danger. Oh really?

- I think slaving the TARDIS to an unidentifiable object that's hurtling through the Vortex isn't necessarily the best move ever!

- Rose is nagging Nine to show her 'some Spock' - she'd rather seen him scan for alien tech than ask people questions. No wonder she likes Jack so much, given how flash he is!

- Why was Jamie on the roof? Was he aware of the TARDIS' arrival before/as it happened?

- Why doesn't Rose let go of the barrage balloon rope before it gets very far off the ground? Sure, she risks injuring herself, but it's a lesser risk than continuing to hang on!

- Why does the Doctor say that the only thing that surprises him is his companions wandering off - he should be very used to that by now!

- Nancy is very resourceful.

- Interesting that Jack's first meeting with Rose sees him rescuing her from her own foolishness, whereas Jack's first meeting with Martha sees her trying to save him from his own foolish behaviour (leaping at the dematerialising TARDIS). For me, those two meetings sum up the two female companions perfectly.

- The Doctor insinuates himself into a spot at the dining table very cleverly. (Nice camera work!)

- Jamie being able to control the telephones/radio, etc (via 'Om-Com' is definitely on the spooky side.

- Jack tells Rose he can 'spot a Time Agent a mile off' - and proceeds to behave as if she is one. Really doesn't say much for his powers of observation. Okay, so she's obviously not in her native time period, but even so...!

- Jack is a really flash bugger: the invisible (stolen) spaceship parked up against Big Ben, the champagne and dancing, etc.

- The Doctor, when Nancy tells him he should go and talk to 'the Doctor', is clearly wondering if he's going to run into another incarnation of himself.

- Rose's head's easily turned by Jack and his flashy technology. This could be seen as the first hint that it's not the Doctor-as-Time-Lord she wants, but the Time and Space travel lifestyle (which would explain her telling Ten not to regenerate. She doesn't want the Doctor per se.)

- It's an interesting moment when Nine works out that Nancy lost someone and that's why she's is caring for the homeless kids. He clearly approves and empathises.

- Dr Constantine says he's dying but hasn't had the time to do so yet. Very macabre humour that's typical of the era.

- This little exchange between Dr C and Nine always gets me:
Dr C: Before this war began, I was a father and a grandfather. Now I'm neither. But I'm still a doctor.
Nine: I know the feeling.

- I still laugh when Jack introduces himself to Nine and calls him 'Mr Spock'.

- Even Jack looks unnerved by the Gas Mask Zombies - and you'd have thought that as a Time Agent, he'd seen a lot of scary things.

Captain Jack Harkness - who's not all he seems!

- The exchange between the Doctor and Jack regard to the Weapon Factories of Villengard is interesting for what it reveals about the Doctor, and what will develop into a recurring theme (his dislike of weapons, presumably a side-effect of the Time War.)

- Rose tells Jack that the Doctor communicates by blowing things up, which seems a little harsh.

- The Doctor can sense Jamie's emotions in the room where he'd been 'interviewed'.

- Nancy tells the children that Jamie always comes for her - our first hint that their relationship isn't exactly as she portrays it.

- Glen Miller's 'Moonlight Serenade' is Jack & Rose's song, after just one dance? Pfft!

- The Doctor tells Rose he's been around for 900 years, so it's fair to say he's 'danced' at some point. Asexual, my foot!

- The Doctor calls Rose 'jeopardy-friendly'. That's NOT the word I'd use!

- Jack's comment about no one taking his frock always makes me snigger.

- Considering she lives in London, Rose seems rather shocked by Jack's assertion that he'll go and distract the guard.

- Anyone else unnerved by the revelation that four year old Jamie is a 'fully equipped Chula Warrior now'?

- I love the Doctor's 'Software patch. Gonna email the upgrade.' lines.

The Doctor: Everybody lives, Rose. Just this once. Everybody lives!

- Who doesn't share the Doctor's glee that 'just this once, everybody lives'?

- Dr Constantine asking Mrs Harcourt if she miscounted her legs makes me giggle.

- Jack's Emergency Protocol 417 gives him a Vodka Martini!

- Apparently Jack's been sentenced to execution more than once (and this is before he gets turned immortal!)

- Jack comments about the TARDIS being bigger on the inside, and Nine retorts 'You'd better be', which is his way of telling Jack he's got a lot to live up to.

The Doctor dances - and the world doesn't implode!
