Why does the human reproductive system suck so bad?

We mate for life, first of all, which is evolutionarily irresponsible (though that's mostly cultural I think), we raise our children for nearly two decades, we have a silent fertility cycle so no one knows when fertilization is possible, and that cycle had nasty byproducts that could lead to ( Read more... )

Our reproductive system is the worst. Especially because instead of just following whatever biology tells us to do, we have ~society~ to tell us things that don't make sense on top of whatever natural urges we get.

I don't think I'll have children, just doing my part to help the overpopulation problem. I could adopt, but apparently children raised in two-parent households are more stable later in life, and I'm not one to believe in long-term relationships.

The universe kind of sucks.

Ugh, SOCIETY *shakes fist*

Speaking of society and reproduction, I suggest reading this. It's pretty much the shit.[ http://www.mum.org/ifmencou.htm ] It's by Gloria Steinem, who is a feminist writer/BAMF.

My friend and her two sisters were adopetd by a single woman, and she's pretty much awesome. I wouldn't let society and it's lameoid statistics tell you not to adopt children. Just saying.

I wonder what it would be liked to be raised by a fangirl? First word-OMG?

JK I love you.

Oh god, children raised by fangirls. That's pretty much the entire next generation, holy shit.

I'm just imagining an addition to the baby book: BABY'S FIRST SHIP. Probably Aladdin/Jasmine or something.

So bizarre.

Also, that article is amazing.
