No Seriously Though

Why does the human reproductive system suck so bad?

We mate for life, first of all, which is evolutionarily irresponsible (though that's mostly cultural I think), we raise our children for nearly two decades, we have a silent fertility cycle so no one knows when fertilization is possible, and that cycle had nasty byproducts that could lead to predation and death (or just suck in general, which it does), and that also has a social taboo on it. Then, the birth process is so traumatic and the rearing of the child is so difficult and expensive that only very few offspring can be supported per woman per lifetime.  Men are designed to mate as many times as they possibly can, and yet we mate for life. We mate for life, and yet the female in the relationship still does the vast majority of family-related work, even with the addition of her own career. Also, people with undesirable traits are just as likely to reproduce as people with desirable traits, which throws everything off.

Seriously, evolution. WTF.

In other news, I'm dissecting another pig next semester, and it's expected to take a month. Not only is that going to smell terrible, but I'm a vegetarian now. That's gonna be fun.  Someone in our class was apprehensive about that, and the TA said "Oh don't worry, a guy fainted when my class did this." OH THANKS THAT HELPS.

Speaking of lab, we're doing a blood typing lab next time, and even if we already know our blood types, we are required to draw blood from ourselves and blood type ourselves again. Á mon avis, basing our grade in lab on our ability to stab ourselves is a flaw in the system.  YES I KNOW it won't be that bad, it's NBD, I'm not squeamish, but still.
