I'm changing my SQL database for my photo site to have an abstraction between exhibits and pictures (sinces there's significant overlap of pictures between exhibits). For that purpose, I needed a table that map exhibit pictures numbers to internal numbers. Since they were sequentially numbered, it would have been easy to do a loop with some SQL ( Read more... )

I tell my students all the time that my way of life, which they should emulate, is to spend two hours figuring out how to automate a 5 minute task if they have to. Short-term, yes, you lose. But long-term you gain so much time and ability that it is simply amazing....

I have always considered the learning part to be valuable. What I hadn't considered was how I felt I had wasted the time spent non-learning.
