Can you talk to the kanji teacher? I know every time that I've been in a position like that with a class and I finally forced myself to admit it to the teacher, I've felt a lot better because they tend to be really helpful and understanding. You're not going to be the first one who has felt like this! Maybe they can help out.
I feel you on the conflict of homesickness and dreading to go back. I wish I could give a good advice on that.
I found that it helped to avoid things that would cause me to fall back into that cycle, such as spending time by myself all the time. Try to be around others, and try to set an outside goal to accomplish for every day (even if it was "find a new store" or "take a picture of a location you haven't been to yet," or "get ice cream at a new place."). It will make your days less predictable, and there will be a sense of small happy accomplishment every day.
I would also like to know how to get out of this kind of situation, because I'm in a very similar one and sometimes I just burst into tears for no reason in the middle of things.
Cassie. I understand completely. But a) your in Japan which is awesome in itself and I totally envy you for it b) your in the same country as your boyfriend. Even if things are difficult, you can still call him or message him or just SEE him cause he's in the same place at the same time c) you're just full of aweshum. So much aweshum. You have the ability to pawwwwnnnn at japanese because of that!!
