Pain is not fun

Trying to relax and get better, but it's not working very well. I slept a bit better last night and don't feel as much like a zombie as I usually do. But I'm still in some fairly serious pain.

I have started to notice that I say "but" a lot, especially after commas and fullstops. Surely there's a synonym?
