I've given so damn many versions of that speech -but you said it way better than I ever have.
Type I diabetes is a frustrating and bizarre condition - and it's made all the more so when those around you don't get why you all of a sudden need to eat *the entire kitchen* in a carbo-craving mania (unless that one's just me), or, alternatively, feel completely lethargic and generally crappy for no reason apparant to the outside world. anyway, my empathies, and I'm sorry that there are fuckwits in the world who make dealing with the stress of an autoimmune disorder that much harder.
I have to give that speech a lot because, well, it's hard for people to understand it. Yes, it's normal that sometimes I eat like a racehorse and sometimes the sight of sweet food makes me practically puke on myself. Yes, it's normal that my urine sometimes smells like honey.
It confuses and embarasses people and, really-- they just have to know, if I'm going into hypoglycemic shock, a diet soda is not going to do a DAMN thing for me.
And yes, I am ALLOWED to have that blueberry muffin, jackass, now GIVE IT TO ME.
You make no excuses, only explanations. And you are perfectly willing to explain, whether people are willing to listen or not. Plus your rants make me die from laughter with their raging and their TMI. In a good way. :)
