Yeah, I have tried explaining to Earl why we are not getting an HEA because he keeps bringing me dead things, doesn't understand about not biting me when he's annoyed, wants to invade my personal space and eat the computer mouse...but he looked at me blankly and went back to staring at the empty bowl. I can guess how Sookie feels about Bill not getting it ( ... )

Yep, Earl is completely dense. Telling him no more dead things just resulted in me getting a live waxeye deposited in the kitchen. No Earl, live birds aren't any better!

Lol - so if Bill ever gets a clue, she could find her enemies partially tied down in the kitchen for her perusal as tribute. :D

It would be like Sophie-Anne presenting her with Waldo, and Bill would think he would get to step in and show her how willing he is to take care of it all for her, again. But there might be less feathers in her kitchen, unless it's a were-bird or something :)

I really like this journal! anonymous March 19 2012, 04:36:04 UTC
I personally would have felt that Bill, dying as a martyr for Sookie would have screwed up her relationship with Eric in a monumental fashion.
You make so many good points above, but here in particular I think you hit the nail on the head. I don't hate Bill, I just find him irritating as a suitor at this point. The cloying, lovesick puppyvamp thing is just grating for me at this point. I don't want him dead for exactly the reason you mention. He has done enough. The scales are as even as they're going to be. I'm just ready for him to fade into the background, whether that be an actual departure (He has conveniently portable business.) or just moving on. The door was open with Judith, I think. As fantastic as her farewell was, I would have traded it for a Bill who stops turning up like the cat that came back ( ... )

Can you imagine how much more difficult it would have been for Sookie to reconcile Eric not making it to her despite torture, refusing to save Bill and then Bill dying in that final fight? The guilt that Sookie would feel would be astronomical and completely unnecessary.

I don't think that Bill will ever actually leave. He's persistent and he's not giving up any time soon. It'll be up to Sookie to leave and Bill to be left to his own devices.

Aww *shuffles feet* this is why I love your fanfic - I see so much of what I love in the books reimagined in human form and not dumbed down - hence my loving diatribes as reviews. It's pretty tough to find a pro-Sookie place, so I made one myself. :)

I agree with much of what you've written here. The rape theme runs through the entire series, every permutation of it, IMO. So much so that I finally read "A Secret Rage" written by CH, to find that some parts of it are extremely powerful and also provide some insight into Sookie's behavior ( ... )

I forgot to add, I think Bill will meet his pointy-end in the final book, serving the *mystery* side of the series.

I don't, and I hope he won't. Sookie's story needs to end on a happy note. Bill dead 5 minutes before curtain wouldn't satisfy those of us who care about how Sookie's doing.

I haven't read "A Secret Rage" yet, but I have read Lily Bard. Lily's experience is pretty extreme. Lily has hygiene rituals that make Sookie's look like a lightweight ( ... )

Bill as HEA??? thyradane March 19 2012, 16:26:29 UTC
I always thought the Bill`s Babes were TB-people only. How can anyone have read the books - really read the books - and still root for Bill? Apart from the rape(s), which should end any thoughts of a relationship between the two immediately, there is nothing positive for Sookie from being with Bill ( ... )

Oh, they're around. I usually check in with them one time per book release, and then feel like I need an emotional shower with the sheer amount of vitriol poor CH and Sookie get. But I did lurk trying to figure it all out, because having read the books, and mostly liking Bill in the beginning, I couldn't understand why it was different for them. I worried that I'd missed something.

Yeah - the Selah thing. He was such an epic dick about that. He's not actually telepathic, so he doesn't know what kind of crap was in Selah's head feeding into Sookie, and he undermined Selah's self worth too. A *complete* arse there.

I liked it too - but I also thought it was sad that she got such a blasting by the fandom. It was all concern for Eric, because of course, he's too sensitive to ever be told "No".

What, really? thyradane March 19 2012, 19:43:02 UTC
Was there really a negative reaction from fans about Sookie making this noise of protest? That seems absurd to me. I've never read too much particular quote. To me it was simply a moment of realism, in the same vein as Sookie interrupting sexy talk while straddling Eric to complain of being cold in DTTW.

I find it interesting to read the way others interpret certain scenarios. It makes me very sad to consider that some women might feel powerless and unable to make their feelings known over something (that I consider) as simple as alerting a partner that he's forgotten himself in the moment and is pulling too hard, or any similar thing. Also angry. It makes me very angry. :|

I just realized I didn't say thanks for taking the time to write such a thoughtful post about this. The novels are full of instances of rape IMO. I don't know if the author writes it to help herself deal with her own trauma or if she writes it so women will talk about it. I hope it's both.

I think it's both actually - and what's more, because it is a factor in so many women's lives, it's something that needs to be reflected. It's not a fantasy world where nothing bad ever happens and Sookie's life reflects that her problems are like a third of women. Not exactly the same, but none of us are the same.
