Sooner or Later

Okay, so previously, I put up my theory of why Freyda wanted Eric in particular. This is an update with some more support for this theory. CH is pretty good at giving some hints that I think support all of this well, as well as the release of the Companion, which gives more information.  As I've discussed before, my premise is that Freyda wants Read more... )

very insightful. i still haven't read the sookie stackhouse companion, but with these little excerpts you've quoted, i'm much more interested to see those secret dialogues!

The secret dialogues give us a fuller picture of some of the behind the scenes stuff, as well as what exactly the deal was that Bill and Eric made...and how Eric broke the rules. :D

These are my favorite kind of blogs - when you comb through some part of the SVM storyline and find little bits and pieces that can make us understand it so much better. Thank you ( ... )

You know, I always figured that Freyda's play for Eric had something to do with Felipe. I hadn't parsed it out to nearly the depth you have, but it seemed to me that Eric couldn't be more than the means to an end (and clearly that 'end' is just one step in a long, complicated plot). However, your theory about what that endgame is - namely, Texas - makes me intensely curious about the state of vampire politics in other areas of the country/world, not to mention the history of the area ( ... )

And how exactly /is/ Europe's power structured? It seems to me that with (I presume) the greater density of ancient vampires, the system may be more stable (I believe it was also mentioned that it's more old-fashioned), but how is everything divvied up? Is there some sort of King of Europe, and that's the model that these American upstarts are going for, or is what they're after something entirely new and greed-driven? For that matter, is the real endgame to create a power base to rival whatever is established in Europe?

I couldn't tell you about Europe either, but I would imagine they have some powerhouses, and some more stability - but not much. Coming out to humans has changed the game. It means building not just states, but empires. I'd say that that's what Eric was referring to when he said that an empire this big hasn't been consolidated in hundreds of years, and that the population was smaller back then (DR).

But more vampires - and there would be an increase with the availability of synthetic and the non-reliance solely on inconspicuous hunting grounds - means more pressure, and more expansion and jockeying for power. Not only that, but the influx of refugee vampires from other intolerant countries changes the game everywhere.

Fucking vampires love their complicated and torturous politics. Luckily I do too. :D Bill says that the arrangement was different before vampires came out of the closet (in DUD), so it could have been anything. And Eric says things changed with the Louisiana purchase (in CD ( ... )

Problem with being late to the party is not only do you have a very long post to read - but the comments are almost as long! *has the fear*

Now I guess the big question is - can I turn some of your thinking into another chapter of We need to talk?

Lol - they are indeed. But at least once you're in the zone, you don't need to worry about missing anything. :D

You can appropriate at will - anything. That's what it's for. :D

A part of me still wants to see Eric do his Prince Philip impersonation - walking two paces behind, making inappropriate jokes to pretty women and annoying all the other subjects by being totally un-PC ( ... )

Lol - I could totally get on board with that. Eric is pretty blunt at the best of times. I'm sure he could muster up stories about the first time he'd seen a "darkie" or something offensive like that.

I think the oil and the size make it a tasty prospect.

Sookie is a one-up from Barry, but it's definitely in his interests to stop these power blocs forming. He may just want to stay out of it though. And yeah - they would definitely have heard about the STW thing - look how Stan lapped up the PR benefits himself when Sookie saved his arse. :D

Well, Pam says that calls to Felipe have gone unanswered. But Felipe could just refuse to release Eric, and kick it up to a Summit adjudication, or just avoid Freyda's calls for the next 100 years. I think Felipe wanted Eric and Victor to sort it out, and that would give him a better idea of how to tackle the remaining one - by watching how they handled things.
