Sooner or Later

Okay, so previously, I put up my theory of why Freyda wanted Eric in particular. This is an update with some more support for this theory. CH is pretty good at giving some hints that I think support all of this well, as well as the release of the Companion, which gives more information.  As I've discussed before, my premise is that Freyda wants Read more... )

Yay! I'm glad to give you favourites. :D

Okay - Victor doesn't have to be logical. He just has to be selfish (a vampire trait for sure). Victor was hoping to move up in status, but he was basically warehoused in the same position in another state. He might be able to see why Felipe did it that way, but he doesn't have to agree.

We don't know how Stan became King. He was Sheriff when Sookie was there the first time.

I'd say that while the states are carved in stone at this point that all the little border skirmishes just don't come to Sookie's attention. But Eric knew the minute that Quinn entered his Area - and found out about it immediately. I'd say that Eric (and other Sheriffs) have watches constantly on the borders. That's why it's important that Joseph Velasquez has the bit bordering Oklahoma. But once you take the border, you wouldn't hesitate to try to take the rest of the states. As Felipe chipped away at Russell's control, he was trying to get a foothold in Tunica - but would have gone for the whole state eventually. It just so happens that Louisiana has been in a state of flux with leadership meaning that apart from Eric's area, no one is really watching well, leaving the entire state (barring Eric's area) up for grabs.

As for why they have the same borders that we have, we don't have any indication where exactly the border stops. But the laws *are* variable from state to state, which means that if you're mainstreaming, you'd keep it within one state to make sure you cross your t's and dot your i's. It's not beneficial to have the BVA breathing down your neck because you had to change policy from one state to another.

Yeah, I'd say that the ultimate goal is becoming the king or queen of the entire country. But that's maybe not completely doable until you're sure that you have a good entourage who isn't going to betray and overthrow you. It's conceivable that taking Texas is the end game in say 30 years. I'd have to blow it out to 100 years to say they're going for the entire country. Already Felipe is seeing instability in his empire, even though it's relatively small, so an entire country may not be possible. It's like of old, with the giant empires - it has to be the right time and combo, and it may fracture eventually. Seeing as vampires like to survive, they may keep it just to the biggest bloc of power, so they can stay alive. But it would be far in the future, long after Sookie is dead. I could extrapolate out, but both CH and I would be dead, so I'm sort of venturing into unknown territory.

No, I don't think Appius got anything much out of it. He was looking to give his child prestige (and thus have prestige himself), take his child away from the human he'd heard Eric was obsessed with (which is beneath him) and just generally throw his weight around. But I think what he got out of it was the forgiveness for a debt that the increasingly crazy Alexei had made for him. After all, Appius doesn't mainstream - so he has no money. If Alexei made a mess in Oklahoma, what's he going to have that has value? Answer? Eric.

I doubt CH will explain this much. We'll get glimmers, just like we have of Sophie Anne, but this is not Sookie's primary concern - politics - so we won't hear about it. It'll just be backstory and motivations.
