You know, I never really got why anyone would want to do this, let alone be able to. I can no more force ideas and good sentences out at will than I can force myself to eat something I don't like. The biggest joy in writing that I have is when the words flow with little or no mental shoving on my part. I know I couldn't do NaNoWriMo because of that: I would find it frustrating and stressful to a huge degree and it would sap the joy of writing right out of the project. This is just me, of course, and I realize there are many people who thrive on challenges or deadlines,
I don't think you're a loser--13,000 words is nothing to sneeze at, you know? I just fiigure this sort of challenge is not for everyone.
Well, I wanted to try Nano to see if I can do it. I thought I might be able to work well under pressure but I was wrong :(. You're right - it's frustrating and stressful and it sort of goes against artistic integrity, don't you think? Lol, it even says on the Nano FAQ that people who take their writing seriously shouldn't participate in it. Thanks - writing 13k was exhausting and I think I would rather write things that I enjoy, not things that I feel compelled to do because someone else has set up these standards, you know? I feel better now that I know Nano isn't my thing - I need the free flow :). Thanks!
eh, this doesn't make you a loser, it makes you smart. not everyone can just sit and churn stuff out like that. it's no big deal... it's not like there's an editor sitting next to you and watching over your shoulder or anything. :)
-pat- Just have fun then.. If I were doing Nanowrimo, I'd try to churn out words. But after the month is over, go back and do some good ol' fashion editing. You can turn ugly stuff into more satisfactory things.

The whole point of Nano is to churn out words and not everyone is at the same mark. I find 13k impressive on its own .
