Summer Sunday picspam

Aug 02, 2009 19:55

Have been playing in the garden this afternoon - lots of pretty creepy-crawlies around, so I've been taking some photos. The bees, dammit, didn't hold still long enough for me to get a decent shot of them - but I caught a couple of butterflies and a dragonfly.

'Caught' as in 'took photos of'. I don't have them in a jar at home now. Urgh.

Insect pics. )

Ooh - a Painted Lady, a Peacock and a male Common Hawker. Glad to see you are getting some butterflies, they seem a bit scarce this summer round where I am.

We seem to have loads of them around here - well, in the immediate vicinity there's quite a lot of lavender, which I guess helps. Lots of bees, too, which is encouraging. Poor little bees.

Thanks! Yeah, it's an awesome camera. *loves* It makes me want to go out and take photos because I know they'll come out nicely. :)

I don't think humans are meant to see dragonflies that close up. Meep! I saw a lot of blue ones on the river yesterday and they were prettier than yours. ;)

The butterflies are gorgeous. I think I want your camera.

My friend wanted the dragonfly to be blue - she said we should sue, which was what made me laugh and scare off the one there. :) Yeah, up close, they're kind of unpleasantly... well, insectoid. But the wings were amazing.

My camera rawks. *g*

They're lovely, aren't they? I was trying to get one last, perfect close-up of the wings, but that was when the little bugger flew off - buzzed right past my head. They're loud, too.

that last one reminds me of the bug that got teal'c in bane (i think that's the episode)

FYI dragonflies drink the blood of hummingbirds. when we used to feed them at my grandmother's house, there'd be a bunch of dragonflies around & i wondered why until someone told me that bit of info.

Ew! Okay, yuck. Thanks - I'm going to dream about bloodthirsty, Jaffa-eating dragonflies tonight, I just know it.

:)
