GRRRR. Poll

This is in light of the TWoP SV media thread, yet again, making ASSumptions about why a certain actor doesn't do press.

I don't care if they don't do press. I'll admit, I like hearing things from their POV, especially on DVD commentaries, but I don't get miffed if they don't. The one thing I don't like is if they diss the role that makes them famous.

Yes, that completely irks. That's the thing I can't stand. And since Tom isn't doing that, I cannot understand the hostile attitude towards him.

I would only think they were stuck up if they were, you know, stuck up. If the actor was all, "I am too good to do these lowly commentaries/press interviews", then obviously I would think "hmm, s/he is pretty stuck up". But unless I knew this to be the case, I would have to go with "just doesn't like press".

Exactly! And is it a crime to not like the press? No, it's not. It's not like the actor has gone out in public and admitted that he/she is above the press.

As the assumptions are coming from people who have actually tried to get some info, how I understand the matter, it's not only unfair to the fans, as it's extremely unfair to the show, to the staff and to the network. A lot of money is invested to not have any actor (especially the leading man) doing any kind of promotion, giving interviews, showing up at this or that event, etc. When people complain about the (low) rating numbers of Smallville, that's mainly because no promotion is made (which is a MKT problem concerning all parties involved ( ... )

I guess whether or not they've tried to get info from him doesn't really matter to me. What I think is that it's really unwise to diss an actor from a show that you run a website on. And it's not like Tom doesn't do press. I've seen interviews and clips from him. The show lack of promotion is more of a CW problem, IMO, than an actor problem.

Also, I think there are more ways to show interest in a show than necessarily doing press. I think directing episodes definitely shows an interest in the show. He wouldn't direct unless he wanted to.

..Forgot to add...

//The same can’t be said about TW though. If the actor, in this case, TW, shows little to none interest to talk about the show he works for, that alone, as I see it, shows that he doesn't give a damn to SV, to the producers, and especially, to us.//

There's a quote from Allison Mack's blog saying how she couldn't focus, and Tom reminded her that they are "here to tell a story". If that doesn't show that he does give a damn about the fans, I don't know what will.

Hmm, I guess its a big suprise where I stand on this, eh? ;)

Ya know, I'd love to hear more from Tom. He's actually a great guest on a talk show. But if doing publicity for SV now, in its 6th season, with whatever backstage drama might be going on, doesn't feel right for him? Well, thats up to him, isn't it?

All actors owe their fans is not act like assholes if they are ever politely approached, and to do their best at the roles that brought them fans. Everything else is garnish.

Word. As actors, their job is to portray his/her character convincingly.

Oh, and I totally voted wrong on your 2nd question. I meant to say No, but instead voted yes. Sorry, I've skewed your poll. ;)

Hee I try to avoid those debates now because some people take it so personally, it always either seems to fall into Tom is a stuck-up snob, or people pulling out all their quotes and examples yet again of how TW is their dream man *g* But to be honest, I do get frustrated when I see the effort that the SPN actors will put in for their fans, and the SV actors won't even sign off on a gag reel :/ I mean I'll say the same for MR, I wish he could have recorded commentary for Lexmas, or that there could have been a cast commentary discussing Hydro and Tom's direction. Michael was still doing commentary in season 3, and Kristin and Allison in season 4, but after that they semed to give up. I wonder if Michael decided not to bother when he saw that Tom wasn't, and then Allison and Kristin decided the same after season 4... Who knows though lol ( ... )

Well, see, at least you don't single out a specific cast member, though. You're being fair to everyone.

And even if Tom doesn't do as many interviews as he used to, it still doesn't excuse the writers or AlMiles to completely ignore Clark.

I agree that it's a bit unbalanced in how Tom is singled out for criticism. And I definitely agree that it doesn't excuse the writers ignoring Clark lately! I do wonder what came first though. If Tom lost interest in seasons 6 and 7 because it no longer feels like his show as much, or that the new guest stars are being promoted so much because Tom has lost interest.

Maybe there's some frustration involved as Tom has always been adamant about only playing Clark in his younger years, and so they are stalling on the Jor-El training, the suit and the flying, and it really comes across like they don't have much left to say on Clark any more. It was really a five year plan. So perhaps Tom isn't thrilled about SV maybe being dragged out for another two years (to set up possible spin-offs?), when Clark's character journey should be basically done by now. It doesn't feel like Clark's story so much at times, which I can't imagine would thrill him. But who knows

I agree that AlMiles don't seem to have thought things out. My guess is that Tom is frustrated with the direction his character has taken. This show, at times, just doesn't feel like it's about Clark anymore.
