I mentioned that reading Naruto fanfic caused you to spend a lot of time on ff.net losing hope in hum--no, that's not it--teenage girls?

Why am I still reading this, jesus.

HERE, LET ME SUMMARIZE. )

bitchmoan, naruto

Nevermind that B is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH more physically dangerous than A. So that it's like telling James Bond (Casino Royale) that he's not allowed to go speak to Dr. Katie Brown (SGA), because she's been acting weird and might stab him with her cactus.

*dies* THAT. THAT WOULD BE IMPORTANT.

ETA: By which I mean, important when a Naruto story is being written about these two by just about any sane person.

There are a lot of stories about Iruka catching Insert-Elite-Ninja-Here by surprise with his ability. I have yet to see this plot device pulled off believably while still giving enough credit to the elite ninja. Especially when the elite ninja is Kakashi, whose ability is more about experience and critical thinking than it is about sheer power. Maybe one or two stories, but the authors still want him to be "of jounin-level skill" but just choosing not to get promoted. Which just seems like a cop out -- only physically dangerous characters can be interesting?

Huh. Most of what I remember reading involved Iruka getting hurt. A lot. I am intrigued as to where this trend might have come from.

Yes, there are plenty of h/c plots. In which the ailment and the comfort lasts for between 5 and 20 chapters. Less is more, guys?

There are very few stories where Iruka is written to be better than the jounin, but usually there is a plot point along the way that is about Iruka "surprising" whatever jounin is involved.

The other Iruka cliche is where a jounin is forced to teach Iruka's kids for one class period, and it's terrifying! completely out of control! a natural disaster! It never feels much like a real classroom, and the jounin -- Kakashi usually -- is not given much credit for 1) being famous and scary or 2) having taught children before. Not that he ought to be great at Iruka's job, but kept within the bounds of plausibility, perhaps?

Have you read Team 8? (also, who are A and B? B is...kakashi...? No guesses for A.)

Team 8 -- is that Kiba, Hinata, Shino, Kurenai? I have read fic in which they appear...?

it's a good AU in which Naruto is put there instead of Kiba. That's one of my go-to fics for restoring my faith in humanity.

HAHAHAHAHA.

Update: the Queen is a crazy and a grudge-holder and has ordered Character A to be tortured for information! Suicidal depression is not an acceptable answer!

The true problem with bad!fic? Is that sometimes you can't get it out of your head and sometime in the near future will have a little voice in the back of your head ask if that train wreck is complete yet.

And then... when you find it again... it's still... bad.
