Kitty gone

We put Harriet down today.  It was definitely her time to go- her back legs weren't working anymore, and she couldn't get up to drink water or use her litter box.  She stopped eating the day before yesterday.

She was my friend for twenty years- and my sister, even before my brother came along!  Humans are not easy creatures to love, but she somehow

Oh hon, I'm sorry. I only met her that one time, but I took a shine to her and her timid curiosity. She was an awesome kitty with an awesome family.

It is tough--When we put Cody down, my Mom said to me that "We were keeping Cody alive for us, not for his own sake." Pets are so often dis-regarded, their wants subsumed into our desire for a pet...and then we forget that they are 'people' too. It is a very tough decision, but I think that learning when to put an animal down is a way to respect an animal's 'humanness' separate from their identity as our pets.
