I think I'd like Bel/Fran more if we got more background on how he joined the Varia etc.

Though, I kinda like the idea of shipping it in a fucked-up "Mammon's replacement in every sense of the word" way.

Fran just needs more backstory in general.

... I like that idea too. Sadly, most of the Bel/Fran fandom seems to much prefer fluff.

Nearly everyone introduced in the Future Arc does.

And some not introduced in the Future Arc. YAMAMOTO WHERE IS YOUR MOTHER?

Thank you, you have summed up my thoughts on the matter.

Bel and Fran are just a really weird kind of BFF's to me [shrugs]

I don't even really think that, since my second greatest hope for the Future Arc was finding out that all the Varia members are BFFLs with their Guardian counterparts they really just annoy and attack each other >_>; Give it a little time, and then yeah, they could be pretty close. But not where they stood as we saw them.

Even though I basically agree with kidscrappy, I like this interpretation and it makes me want to go write reams of mourning!Bel fic.

LET'S JUST SAY I PROMISE NOTHING BECAUSE WE'LL ALL BE HAPPIER THAT WAY.

By which I mean that I still have a little bit of homework that needs done before I can write anything.

I like Fran, and I agree with you completely. Maybe it's just because I love Bel/Mammon so much that Bel/Fran feels like a cheap knockoff or something, but it seems like the main justification for it is just that Fran is cute (and doesn't have the whole 'stuck in the form of a baby' hurdle to get over), and it's automatically assumed that Bel secretly loves him and just sucks at showing it. But I never realized how much it bothered me until I was reading this, that when he's with Fran, Bel never seems like he's having fun. During the Ring Battles, when he was standing around with Mammon dissecting all the fights, Bel actually looked like he was enjoying it more than he ever has when he's beating up Fran. He's like an angry kid that doesn't get why the toy is gone, and is punishing the replacement for not being as good as the original. It's...not so romantic, actually.

But I hope you know that I will now forever refer to Bel/Fran as the "DO NOT FEED THE TROLL" ship.

Yes, exactly! Even when he was bickering with Mammon over the viewing fee for the Mist Battle, they looked like they were having fun and liked having each other around. I never got that kind of vibe from Bel and Fran. Heck, Bel wasn't even the only one who just wanted to outright attack him.

Oh, cool, I'm a trendsetter!

You know, now I kind of feel bad for Fran. Does anyone like the poor kid? Not that he doesn't do anything to deserve all the knives/tridents/general abuse, but still- not even one friend? Honestly, I can kind of see him getting along with Squalo, in a way. They've both got the "token sane person" complex going on, if you can get past the screaming and apathy, respectively.

A superhero doesn't need friends! I can see him getting along with Squalo, too. Also, Chrome and Chikusa, who would be pretty hard to piss off and are too cute to troll, anyway.
