Happy New Year F-List

I can tell that it's been a while since I've been on my LJ, I am completely not caught up on current events.

Saw Sherlock Holmes this week.  Not bad.  That's the second time in a row that Robert Downey Junior has played eccentric geniuses.  It was all very  . . . steampunky.  Of course, I see steampunk influences everywhere mainstream now, so I ( Read more... )

Mansfield Park and Mummies? Do tell -- P&P&Z and S&S&SM are in all the bookstores, but I haven't heard anything about this one. I thought P&P&Z did a brilliant job of playing with Austen's original, although by the end the humor got a bit . . . like a movie starring Seth Rogen, perhaps? . . .

I've been afraid of exhausting the trend, so hadn't sought out S&S&SM (though I did get my mum-in-law to send me a copy of Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter from England for Christmas and it looks to be rather "eh", alas), but Mansfield Park can probably use more shaking up than any of Austen's others.

I've been a bit afraid of getting too tired of the trend as well. So I've steered clear of the other Austin mashups. But I distantly know the author.

Mansfield Park is one of Austin's weakest works, and the character of Fanny Price is much less insipid when she's slaying mummies and battling vampires and dodging werewolves. She also seems to be the only chracter who isn't bespelled by all three, so she comes across as quite a bit smarter than the rest of the cast.

I was a bit worried that they were going to run roughshod over Arthur Conan Doyle's work. But they did a great job of adapting it.

Happy New Year to you too, and thank you for my X-Mas gift. (No, you didn't send em something and then forget about it. Hubby bought me one of your books, though it hasn't arrived yet I saw Yard Dog Press on our bank statement.)

Snuggies! Every time one of those ads come on and they show people in a red one, Honeypot starts singing "It's the Inquisition" :)

Nice to hear something good about Holmes. Going to see that on Sunday. Steampunky? The more the better with me, so yay!

NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

Yea, another Monty Python fan! Now all we have to do is get together and conquer the world.
