I've already read the whole thing (galley copy FTW \O/ )

Without giving anything away, I can say that the fans won't be dissappointed.

I started writing when I was 12. I found a mentor who helped guide me with early writing lessons, and I wrote for a long time to develop a style.

Writing for the smart pop books was more networking than anything. Same as writing for firefox. I met the publisher at con DFW a few years back and made the conctact. occasionally, I ask them what they're reading for. If I can come up with a good essay for the topic, I try to write something on spec (which means they may or may not buy it.)

I've been rejected from a few of their anthologies before. I've been told of a few I was welcome to pitch to and couldn't come up with a good idea for.

It's basically work, like anything else. but It's my dream, so the work dosen't seem like too much work.

We all get a percentage of the royalties. The book is legal, just not authorized. It's covered under fair use doctorine ( ... )

thank you dear, that does make me feel better.

my first fandom was csi, spn is only my 2nd, so I'm not familiar with the buffy and angel smart pop books.

I would be concerned if kripke wasn't notified, but it sounds like he was, so thats good then. in my worse case scenario, the authors were contributing their work, the book had kripke's baby's name on it and some unknown party was pocketing the money. not that I think you would get yourself into something like that, but I just wanted to be certain.

although I haven't been around fandom for too long - 5ish years maybe, when I hear of some people being around since star trek (the original, holy crap!) I've been around long enough to witness enough wank about fanfic and copyright issues... we've carved ourselves a nice little comfortable home here, and I don't want to see it ruined by getting lawyers after us, y'know?

so thanks for getting back to me so quickly, and congrats on getting your meta published, I can't wait to read it!

There are a couple of writer's resources that i use to keep up with publishers who aren't on the up and up. One of the best is Predators and Edtiors.

But Benbella has been around a while, and they've got a good track record.

Can't wait to buy my own copy. I work at the local B&N and I've already had a lot of request for the book as a preorder.
