But he didn't shoot the deputy. Dean's easy that way XD

And some of the fanfic writers at the pit of voles are just rare flowers, aren't they?

Me? I'm kind of like thistle. ;)

*snerk* Ah, FF.net. I only go there if someone I know well recs something, otherwise I wind up wanting to scrub my eyeballs with Brillo or scouring my brain with bleach. :D

The sad thing about this? It's that I know a few editors. I've seen their slushpiles. FF.Net is like typical slushpile. Even in Original Fic, there is always a Suck Leaches of Mars out there to lure in the unsuspecting.

@_@

I've always assumed that ppl who actually submitted to editors put together something good. And especially for scifi, which is really hard to get into. (I tried a few times several years ago, was rejected)

Of course, thinking about it now, I don't know why I assume that. These ppl *think* they're writing hot stuff. And horrible writers get published every day.

I'm rejected all the time. Many of the well-known pros I know of are rejected all the time. So the story goes, Mercedes Lackey was sent a rejection letter for a short story once that said "if you keep trying, you'll make it someday" by an editor who didn't realize that she'd recently come out with her popular novel, Arrows of the Queen.

But for every pro who knows that writing is a business and treats it as such, there are 50 or 60 starry-eyed young aspiring writers who put their heart and soul into a story, and then send it in on pink paper to make it more noticible and then get angry when they are rejected and send the editor a 3-page, angry letter in response.

You think th eteenage love interest is bad in our fandom, you should see the Labyrinth section. (She was 15 in the movie but some people apparently thought he should sex her up right there in the tunnels.)

I love the "better than it sounds" bit, they always say that, and they're almost always wrong.

Underage self insert runs rampant on FF.Net. It's usually my first clue that something might be a self insert.

"Dean's bedding someone under age. He didn't pick her up in a bar, and she didn't lie about her age. must be a self insert."

This was a summary of several badfic disclaimers that I read on ff.net the other day. The ones that blew my mind were the ones with accompanying youtube trailers. Draco/Ginny stories seem particularly prone to that quirk.
