hi there, mid-February

So 2014. Not such a great year so far. Work has been insane, and I've been having a bunch of health problems that have exacerbated the work craziness and probably also been exacerbated by it. But the two big, stressful work deadlines are in the past, and I've got a medical test on Wednesday that promises some answers (*fingers crossed*), so I'm ( Read more... )

Thanks! *hugs* to you, too, for the health stuff. It really sucks to spend all day every day not feeling well.

And yeah, one of the really lovely parts of being back in the US is all the legal TV streaming! I remember well how frustrating that was in Canada. I haven't looked at anything season 2-related for The Americans yet, but I'm delighted to realize it starts in 10 days. I should be done with season 1 and all ready to go by then.

Oooh, thank you! I will definitely check out the community and come looking for recs when I'm caught up. Because I've enjoyed a lot of shows in the past few years, but almost none of them have made me really feel fannish, in the sense of wanting fic and community and really anything outside of what the show itself can offer. But this is something totally different--this is old-school fannishness. I don't know if it's because I link it to Alias, or because it's set at this point where the potential for backstories and forward-stories are so rich, or just because it's got some particular quality that I can't quite identify. Or maybe it's that I'm at a particular moment and mood where I just want to be swept away by something.

Anyway, yes, loving it a lot right now!

I support your recs!

Would I like The Americans? We have different buttons, you and I. But I am sort of low on television shows right now, as evidenced by this evening's binge-watch of last season's Worst Cooks in America...

I think you probably would, yes. On one level, it's just solidly done television with interesting characters and lots of moral ambiguity and so forth. And unlike so many of the really brilliant TV shows in recent years that I just can't get into because the characters are such horrible human beings, these characters all have their likeable sides, and you don't feel like it's necessarily going to be completely hopeless for them (just make it 10 more years, and this all goes away!). It's not as brilliant of a show as, say, The Wire or probably Breaking Bad or whatever, but it's high-quality nonetheless ( ... )

Here's to hoping that the SAD will go away soon.
