Fic: A Fairer House than Prose (Alias, Irina Derevko)

Feb 12, 2011 19:38

I'm pretty sure Saturday evening is one of the worst times to post fic, but I'm feeling impatient. The long-advertised Irina Derevko fic (and the first "real" fic I've written in over a year) is finally as complete as it's going to be, so now seems like as good a time as any ( Read more... )

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks for letting me know, of course, but most of all thanks for introducing me to the amazing Irina in the first place!

And yes, while I recognize that the introduction of Katya, in particular, was a direct result of not being able to get Lena Olin, it makes me quite sad that we never got to see Katya and Irina hanging out.

When I saw that you had posted an Alias fic I immediately clicked, because I know some of your Battlestar work, and I knew that this would be wonderful as well. Apparently I still hadn't fully grasped your literary genius. Every section was more brilliant than the next- Irina's assignment is so spot-on perfect! Katya's reasoning as to why Irina is obsessed with Rambaldi is perfect! And the section about the way Sydney and Nadia thought about their mother, and both of their fears and only seeing them "through the eye of Rambaldi" oh my god, shut up. And the final scene, where you made Irina go to check on Nadia like the show didn't because they fail, with Jack- it's so well done.

This is so good I don't even know what to do with myself. Thank you so much for posting it!

Oh, wow, thank you! I'm flattered and so pleased you like it!

And I adore your icon, incidentally: there's something about the expression and the hand and the cropping that's just so perfectly Irina.

Oh this was just delicious! I love Irina fic and having come to the party rather late myself (I only discovered Alias in the past year) I find that there is not nearly enough of it out there. Your story was brilliantly done and I got just the right sense of Irina's motivations, which is saying something, because they're generally quite confusing.

I must say though, I was a little disheartened that so many of Irina's students seemed to be so slow! As a college student myself at the moment, I thought the quote was fairly straightforward after a read or two. But still, excellent story!

Also, you seem to have gotten a good response here, but alias500 is basically turning into a general Alias fiction community, so, should you want to post it there, I think you'd be welcome to.

Thank you! I'm so pleased you liked it!

And clearly you're brighter than most of my own students, many of whom would never have troubled to read such a passage twice in the first place. But then again, I wrote that part of the fic in the midst of my own end-of-last-semester grading, and that's never good for my generosity, I confess!

Thanks, too, for the alias500 suggestion. I thought about that, since it seems (at least so far as I've been able to discern) to be the most active general fic community, but I wasn't sure whether this was a little too off-base in terms of what usually gets posted there, despite it having turned more into a general fic comm. Perhaps I'll drop the mod a line to see whether it would be cool to post something like this; one never wants to go waltzing into a new space waving the "I know this isn't really what you do here, but..." flag. :)
