Ficlet: The Group of Beloved Female Characters Who Got Screwed in the End

May 26, 2010 21:26

When I solicited drabble and five things prompts the other day, runawaynun asked for "a group session for kickass female characters abused by canon." It's a cracky kind of request, and this is a cracky, bitchy, and entirely self-indulgent response ( Read more... )

I love this.

"Watch out for erratic characterization," Kathryn warned. "It's never a good sign."

"I know," Dana conceded, "but both the character and the relationship have been handled so well for most of the series."

"Yeah, and good writers have never dropped the ball before," Aeryn cut in sarcastically.

This made me laugh so hard.

One of life's great mysteries, I think. It's a little shocking how quickly and thoroughly it crashed and burned. Stupid show! :(

The undeniable suckiness of it does make it easy to disregard, though. It's not like 'well, they screwed over Laura but at least the Opera House and Hybrid prophesies made sense'.

This was kinda funny. And while i agree about Elizabeth (i'm not really all that familiar with the others), i'm wondering why Aeryn's there. She still managed to be bad ass while having a baby.

My problem with season 4 Aeryn is that she lost so much of her agency. Through the end of season 3, it was very clear to me why she made the decisions she made: how she felt about John, her life, her friends, etc. She made sense, she made her own decisions, and she had a consistent character ( ... )

Well, this is completely random run-in for me. :)

But I love crack, and I really love this. (I like the idea of characters from various fandoms communicating/reveling/commiserating with each other.) Though I wasn't as disappointed/angry as many fans about this episode/scene/half-season in general, I understood a lot of the arguments. ><" That said, my primary problem with this scene, when I saw it, was basically: GODS WHAT ARE THEY THINKING LIGHTING UP AND SMOKING WITH AN OXYGEN TUBE ATTACHED?!?

><" I don't think I ever could get past that.
