This has snuck up on me! I remember seeing a reminder last week and thinking, "oh, that's coming up, yes," and now it is today, and I have no joy planned!!!! I'm sure I will think of something

The thing about Leoben's comment is that even if Adama is the final Cylon, how did Leoben know that? Even though Leoben knows more about the mytharc stuff than any of the other original seven seem to, I got the impression that the identity of the four was a surprise to everyone. Only D'Anna has seen their faces now. So I don't put a huge amount of stock in Leoben's comment because its truthfulness or not is a matter of chance: if he happened to have guessed right, maybe it's just lucky or maybe it could even be spun (by believers) as some kind of divine inspiration, but I don't think he could have known for sure one way or the other.
I don't like the Lee-as-Cybrid idea at all, but I think my main objection to Bill as the final Cylon is my fear of too much emo!
Okay, first, just let me say, totally unspoiled on the final Cylon business at this point -- but before I discuss your theory I'd like to know this first. Have you read what Ron said about the EW "Last Supper" photo that came out about a year ago?
(Also, I love Mo Ryan but I guess she's no longer my twin. No love for Home parts I & II! Ach. Crazy space family goodness at its finest!)
I know that he claimed the final Cylon wasn't in the picture--is that what you're thinking of? That's the only bit of "Last Supper" info I know. I've never taken that comment seriously, though.
And yes, wtf is this no love for "Home 1 & 2"?!?!?? Two of my favorite episodes! Not only for the crazy space family goodness but also for the omgmytharc! stuff. I'm fairly convinced that those episodes are in fact one of the keys to the meaning of the entire show, at least in terms of the myth and theology. But Mo Ryan doesn't seem to care so much about the mytharc generally, and she doesn't seem to have overwhelming love for either Roslin or Lee, so I can see why it doesn't resonate so much for her.

Ah, yes! Now that you have pointed it out, that's exactly what I felt was missing. Maybe my Kara-centric-ness made me notice that less before (my love for her certainly hasn't faded, but my heart has made room for more and more).
Home is so splendid, though! Rewatching right now seems like a good idea. I owe a picspam commentary on Home to someone -- I will have to get to it. Mytharc, OMG!
I've never taken that comment seriously, though.I see. Well, I'm inclined to believe him, although I don't know why

This is such a lovely way to characterize that particular sensation. I feel very similarly about my love for Laura, and whenever I do have time for a full rewatch (probably not until after the ending, so that I can do it through that lens), one of my main goals is to pay more attention as the series progresses to characters I've only later come to have more affection for. I'm thinking particularly of Caprica Six and Lee here, but there are others--even, to some extent, Kara. (Although on one hand I've always loved Kara, and I watch this show with a die-hard Kara fan, so I do pay attention to her. And on the other hand, there's just the unfortunate coincidence that Katee Sackhoff happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to one of the people who has most hurt me in life, and loving Kara always partly involves overcoming an initial negative gut reaction. This was reinforced in my recent rewatch of the mini, because Kara in the mini really looks like my

See, I have to admit that Mo's Lee issues are very similar to my own Lee issues, so I'm not having so much WTF there. Sorry! I'm getting much better with Lee, as you know, but I find that some of what she says about him, especially in mid-to-late s2, still resonates with me.
My WTF with her comes more in the lukewarm response to Laura and "Home 1 & 2." And I also don't think Baltar is nearly as hilarious as she does.
But the way she talks about the storytelling and the characterization on this show really pings for me, so I can forgive her for putting the emphases of her affection elsewhere. :)
I didn't understand her response to 'Home' either. While I, too, have been enjoying her reviews, I find her analysis isn't quite as deep as I find amongst my fellow LJers. And not having watched the episodes as many times as we have, her knowledge of events and backstory seems a bit lacking. When she referred to Lee as being who he is because of his privileged upbringing I about fell out of my chair.
No, she's not going for deep analysis, obviously. And I get the impression that the philosophical/theological/mytharc stuff doesn't interest her at all. She's quite soundly in the "smart but very mainstream fan" camp, I think, rather than the "really fannish fan" camp. I've appreciated her recent reviews primarily because I didn't get a chance to rewatch those episodes, so her summary-with-a-bit-of-analysis style reviews were the sort of thing I was looking for, even if we don't see eye to eye on every point.
It's interesting because until only recently I had been solidly in the 'Bill as the final Cylon' camp, but have recently been thinking more and more that it's going to be Laura. I can't formulate a very good argument as to why I've been swayed in this direction, other than I think in some ways Bill as the final Cylon is too easy and there were moments in 4.0 that gave me pause - and lent fuel to this crazy Roslin-parallels-Hybrid theory I have.
In addition, I think that, if Bill is revealed as the fifth, the Bill!emo it would create would destroy the universe and everything in it. *g*
It sounds like we've sort of done the same thing except in the opposite direction! Because I was solidly in the Laura camp but have lately increasingly suspected it will be Bill, but again, I can't quite put my finger on why. I think there are pretty good arguments to be made either way, and if it turns out to be anyone other than one of the two of them, they'd better really sell me on the idea, because I'm not seeing it. Unless Kara's not a red herring (would that be a surprise? to make us all think she's a red herring and then her turn out not to be?); I could buy Kara as the final Cylon, as well. But pleasepleaseplease not Gaeta or Dee or someone like that: much as I love them, they don't have the character significance for this. And I feel like for it to be someone back from the dead (Zak Adama, Cain, Ellen Tigh, one of Kara's parents) would sort of undermine my theory about Cylons and death--and that was the one part of my grand theory of everything that 4.0 totally reinforced.
if Bill is revealed as the fifth, the Bill!emo it

I have to agree with you on this, and not just because I love them both as characters. It just feels... natural, for some reason, that it would be one or the other of them. Which makes no sense, really, but that's the best I can articulate it.
I have to say I'd be very, very disappointed if the final Cylon turned out to be one of the deceased characters, for many reasons the most important of which would be where the heck would they be coming back from the death from??? There is no longer a Resurrection Hub for them to take advantage of so what? They've been hiding out in a storage locker on Galactica for the past few years?
And seeing as I think your theory it spot on, that's a good reason as well. *g*
