I decided yesterday that I'm not going to try to get the current BSG fic in progress posted in 2007. I'm still buried under stacks of student essays, and I'm leaving for a couple of weeks at the parents' house on Wednesday (and will consequently have somewhat limited internet access, particularly on my own computer). I agree; "Another Ship Went Down" didn't get nearly enough recognition!

And I will echo your comments about a regular beta willing to push you on your writing and your thinking--a most valuable thing indeed! ;)

I think that betaing is one of those things that means something different to different people: is it about fixing grammar and typos? Noting clunky phrasing and "I don't think that character would do/say that" moments? Pointing out that whole sections or the entire fic needs to be overhauled? Or some combination thereof? It's important, I think, to be on the same page, and that's not always something one gets with the "hey, I wrote this story; will someone look it over for me" posts. The regular beta thing is key, and I think reciprocally betaing each other's work is so very helpful, as well. And it's fun! I'm not sure I've ever looked at either end of the beta process as fun before--productive, worthwhile, etc., yes, but never just plain enjoyable.

Plus there's the whole thing where you share my brain, so I'm sure that helps. :)

I think I "met" you through that fic - saw it linked, followed it over, and, yeah, doomed in the good eay.

That was when I "met" you, wasn't it! Yay! (And then actually met you, and really, that's a pretty good track record!)

And I took putting this together as an opportunity to go back and re-read some of those fics, and damn, I love "If you're thinking of leaving." Maybe I should have picked it as the best thing I wrote this past year. Or at least given it a tie with "Signs." Oh well!

Yep. And I realized I had no idea how to pronounce my LJ handle but we figured it out anyway :)

I haven't read "Signs" but I'll still maintain how awesome "if you're thinking of leaving" was. I was just....them.
