I completely missed "Now I Lay Me Down". Looking at when it was posted, I'm guessing that's back when I was in my summer foray of children's camps and re-enacting girls' school stuff. So I'm SO glad you did this 2006 fic recount, because now I got to read it

And oh wow! Painful, to be sure, but it certainly rings true with some of the horrid things that I think came to pass during this season.
I enjoyed getting the little glimpses from the various characters - the ones who are still left - and how poignant that tragedy is when the "heroes" are now gone and they alone remain to carry the burden. And I think my favorite part was the tension that now exists between Elizabeth and Daniel. The comment about how when he looks at her, she feels alone and exposed, is great! I could so see that. And it fit perfectly with the own questions that have arisen in my mind about Elizabeth's leadership through some of this.
Thanks! I sort of love coming on something that I missed initially--and it's always fun to get feedback for something written a while ago. I passed your comment on to Kate, as well.
