We outlive them almost every time, and have I come to see it as inevitable -- doesn't help to hear that, but it's something I've used to prepare myself. A sign like this helps me cherish my time with them in their last months.
I got clear messages that Merlin's time was short, a couple of years ago, and his last day started with another of his (in)famous and unplanned runs through the neighborhood. I brought him home and laughed at this folly, and I saw the fun he had just had in his face. Knowing he was fading helped me be like that with him, even on days that it made me late to work or for a date. I'm tearing up a bit now at the end of my email, which is perfect.
I have hopes that you all can enjoy her time with you.
