The Dark Tower Movie - as cast by me

May 14, 2008 14:54

I was sitting around watching some fan made Dark Tower trailers. Some were utter garbage, but some were pretty danged good. I started thinking about casting since it will most likely be live action. Though I personally think a cell shade rendered series of movies with a color pallet that is usually limited, like was done in 300, only have the ( Read more... )

Might I suggest Viggo Mortenesen as Roland? To me, he's always had that heir of "Gunslinger"...

...Also, Paul Dano or Jake Gyllenhai would make way better Eddie Deans.

I don't object to any of these suggestions, I looked at the pics, and I think they could handle the roles based on looks, good call with Viggo Mortensen, the other two I don't know very well, but they have a good look for the role.

Lets use Crocadile Dundee, Paul Hogan. He even looks like some of the artists renditions in the books and his accent could be used to help create the difference between High Speech and English.

That's not a bad idea either, King never directly addressed accent, but I think it could work.

I've seen clues that the land Roland came from was supposed to be an alternate or "moved on" Texas, Gilead was Austin (or that area) and that the Houston Area (three days ride to the East) was the setting of his adventures with the original Ka-tet. Citgo and other oil references support this, the mixture of what seems like Mexicans and Gringo's along with the gorge (or the dried up Houston Ship Channel) all seem to fit this, however I never heard of King coming out and saying it.

Of course, those are my own deductions. I'm open to just about anything.

Your castlist looks good I believe Hugh Jackman could pull it off, Viggo would be good for the role as well. My only few changes would be changing Dakota Fanning to someone who looks older because in the books Susan Delgado is two years older then Roland when they are young so she is 16. For Susan I'd probably suggest Evan Rachael Wood from Across the Universe. Robert Downey Jr. for Jonas is a good idea they would have to make him look older though. Also I've always pictured Edward Norton as Eddie Dean don't ask me why I just think he's a good actor.

By the time it's a concern Dakota Fanning would be 16 anyways. I didn't know who Rachael Wood was (I've been out of the TV loop for a while). I looked up the picture and wow! The face is perfect for the role, she even looks a lot like the Susan from the Marvel Comics version, however she's 20 now, I'm going to have to stick with Dakota Fanning. (Not like I'm actually being consulted or anything though - this is the "in pecosdaves head" version)

For some reason, no one ever suggests ed harris. At this point i think he's the perfect roland:rough face, piercing blue eyes, can be made to look a little younger for the first book (before he goes to sleep and wakes up older). He's also a great actor with a lot of range. He's also still in great shape too. Seann william scott is a little too old. Ian Somerholder, emile hirsch. Eddie is still kind of kid when we first meet him. My 2 cents.

I like all of your suggestions except for Roland. I think that Daniel Day Lewis would be perfect in that role. Definitely has the look and the acting chops.
