I didn't know this, thanks. I also notice sometimes that country names aren't capitalized in Russian. Should they always be lower-case also?

Country names should be capitalized. But names of nationalities shouldn't be.

No, it's a total mistake. It's an illiteral generation ) In Russian capitalized are names of persons, countries, pets' names. Words aren't Capitalized When They Form a Headline of a Newspaper )
