Oh, he seems to be a cool dude! :) You met him in Mexico? Did you learn anything about his life? I love photos of humans from around the globe. If you're on Instagram, you can search the tag "facesoftheearth." It's awesome! And I used to run the page here https://instagram.com/humansofelsewhere/. You can see some of my photos with Russians there.
Yes, it's Mexico, the place I really love - the Island of Swallows, undeveloped eastern side. It used to have a pirate monument, but it was damaged by hurricane wind and never restored... It a point of power for me, wild and unleashed. Bob Marley Bar in a hut, and they give girls free beer for taking topless picture under the flag. I did not talk much to him, "no abla espaniol", just asked him to take this picture. But he looks like Jack London novel hero... "The Cruise of the Snark"....
You're welcome! Unfortunately, most people are only interested in reading about scandals and nonsense, not pleasant things or people. It's a real pity.
Do you admire her because she was also a peacetraveler or for something else? If her past as enthusiastic traveler going to be removed she looks like a regular American woman. I also met in New Jersey one old cute man who traveled a lot. He even visited USSR under fictional name. Because he was a CIA's agent. Unbelievable to me he was very positive about USSR, Russians and even modern (it was in 2011) Russia.
I liked her because she was a positive and vibrant person, and also because of our shared love for travel. I grow so tired of posts on LJ which are critical of women (esp. older females), claiming they are somehow worthless or washed up. This woman is interesting and still very active in her life. A positive role model, however I've noticed old people in America and Russia are quite different. In Russia, I rarely see older people engaged in social activities.
Yes, they treat their elders as used worthless things. Actually many old Russian people are also very active, but mostly in politics where they fiercely support aggressive leaders as Stalin or Putin.
I'm not sure if they're treated as "worthless", but I rarely see any old people out in Russian cafes or restaurants, etc. I only see them struggling to walk to markets on icy sidewalks, to the banya, etc. In the USA, it's different. I frequently see very old couples eating together in restaurants, or even old men or women eating by themselves.
