Man, it's so weird to think that you people had never actually seen a live mantis before. Honestly, I never really considered the fact that they just don't live in some places...
I would certainly watch a cooking journal and/or read entries in this journal that were cooking related. Always interested in picking up good recipes. Alternatively, if you made it an LJ community, I'd likely post on it too :)
I'm not actually sure what their usual range is, but I imagine that if Seattle doesn't have them, you probably wouldn't either. It's a shame, though; they're so nifty.

It's a culture shock, really. But Seattle makes up for not having mantises by having mountains, rain, and really tall buildings. XD

Mantises are awesome, but I don't think they live this far north, at least not on this side of the Rockies. :(

Thanks! She kept making these really human-like gestures with her arms and head... it was almost creepy, but reeeaally cool.
